Why you’ll love it:

Salvo Foti is the undisputed leader of Etnean winemaking without him we would not be drinking Nerello Mscalese or Carriante today. The Vinupetra is Foti’s flagship red made from a blend of Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio and a small percentage of alicante and Francisi. The grapes are from the tiny 0.5ha ‘Vigna Calderara’ vineyard in the Feudo di Mezzo area of Castiglione di Sicilia (Etna Nord), 700m above sea level. The vines are over 100 years old and planted according to the Etnean alberello (bush vines) system. Petra means rock in Italian and this is exactly what you get from this wine, a liquid rock and mineral mix with a beautiful shape on the palate and a fine, long finish. No fining means this wine is vegan friendly!

 Tastes Like?

Intense aromas of dark cherry, plum and herbaceous notes. Palate is juicy and vibrant with flavours of ripe dark fruits, dark cherry, blackberry, leafy with a hint of smokiness and warm spice. Big tannins, big fruits, big wine, yet has that Etna elegance and extremely refined. Rest this in for a few more years and you will be rewarded!
