Passopisciaro's Contrada S which stands for Contrada Sciaranuova, in Sicilian Sciara Nuova means new lava flow. This wine is made from 100% Nerello Masacelese from vineyards located 850m above sea level with vines that are on average 70-100 years old. The vines are planted on relatively new lava flow from the 1600s that’s now turned into thick gravel. The 2016 vintage is simply stunning with racy acidity that will level off over the next 5 - 8 years and it will continue to evolve for another 10 years. The 2016 vintage produced very evenly ripe grapes. Only 3,300 bottles were made.
Really effortless elegant and fine tannins, lots of dark ripe cherry flavours and a hint of smoke. It possesses gorgeous bright acidity at its core, which expands through the fresh finish, where wild red berries, florals and mineral characteristics continue to lingering on.
