With a history going back to 1877 and 1932, these producers have withstood the test of time due to their dedication to producing high quality, terroir driven wines. But there is also an exciting new wave of young winemakers rebuilding Spain’s wine image. In a place where mass produced wines are the norm and growers rarely ever bottle their own wines the move towards artisanal roots of winemaking is a revelation. Let us take you beyond Rioja, to the rugged landscape of Ribera del Duero and the mountainous Priorat, a region which has gone from obscurity to being the benchmark of a great Spanish wine in barely 15 years. From Alvaro Palacios who was one of the original 5 pioneers who brought Priorat to greatness to the Danish winemaker Peter Sisseck, creator of Pingus, which has since set the standard for excellence in Spanish wine.
