Why you’ll love it?

Founded in 1760 by vineyard owner François Delamotte, Champagne Delamotte is the fifth oldest house in the champagne region. Champagne Delamotte has been established in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger for over 250 years. Since 1988 it has joined forces with the prestigious Champagne Salon.

Delamotte Brut Rosé is made by the traditional saignée method, extracting colour and complexity from the skins through maceration before and/or during fermentation. This traditional rosé method is rarely used in Champagne because of its complexity, but it really adds another level of structure and elegance to the wine. This method requires Pinot Noir grapes that fully mature. The Pinot Noir is sourced from Grand Cru vineyards located on the south-east slopes of the Montagne de Reims area in the villages of Bouzy, Ambonnay and Tours-sur-Marne. The Chardonnay that is used in this wine is from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. They believe that every wine of Champagne Delamotte is entitled to Chardonnay and their Rosé, although it is a ‘saignée’, is no exception. By co-fermenting the two grapes as opposed to blending two varietal wines, the complexity of each personality is preserved without hindering the elegant ‘saignée’ colour. The balance between the dominant Pinot Noir and the smaller percentage of Chardonnay in the Delamotte Rosé gives this wine its beautiful, salmon-pink colour. Once ready for its second fermentation, Delamotte rosé spends 3-4 years on the lees before disgorgement. This is the real Rosé.

Critics review:

Light garnet color. An exceptionally fresh and very cool nose displays only wisps of yeast character on the bright nose of cherry, raspberry and strawberry aromas yet there is better depth than the description would suggest. The complexity continues onto the utterly delicious medium weight flavors where the supporting mousse is relatively fine, all wrapped in a balanced, clean, citrusy and lingering finish that is dry but not the least bit austere.
