Why You’ll Love It?

Acquired in 2010 by Stephane Vedeau, the estate is located on top of the plateau of Vinsobres, south-east of Valréas, north of the Enclave of the Pope in Vaucluse, but inside Drome. According to history, Pope John XXII was very sick after his election to papacy and on his way to Avignon he tasted some wine from Valeras. Miraculously the wine rejuvenated his health! To secure his supply of this wine, he purchased the town from the Dauphin du Viennois and two surrounding towns nearby carving out a papal enclave. The Pope had good reason to love the wines produced from this region. It’s aspect and attitude mean the grapes receive full sun during the day and cool ascending air from the mountains.

Clos Bellane estate has been organic for 15 years and recently certified in 2010. Everything is done by hand on the farm, from harvest to careful sorting of the grapes. Les Echalas is their top cuvee. 100% destemmed, aged 18-20 months in French oak, one third new. With only 6500 bottles produced, this is a charming little French gem you must taste to discover its secrets for yourself!

Deep ruby red in colour. Red berry, raspberry, plum and cherries on the nose with a hint of vanilla. An ultra elegant Syrah from the borders of Northern and Southern Rhone. Med-full bodied, seamless and velvety smooth tannins with intensely seductive flavours of violets, blackberries, raspberry, liquorice and a hint of pepper. Just draws you back for one more sip!
