Why You'll Love It?

S.C.Pannell was established by Steve and wife Fiona in 2004, but Steve's journey to winemaking really dates back to 1969, where as a toddler he grew up on one of Australia's most iconic boutique wineries, Moss Wood in the Margaret River. With more than 14 vintages under his belt completed at various vineyards both local and international, it is no surprise this talented man was awarded winemaker of the year in 2015. Steve has worked numerous iconic wineries including Wirra Wirra, Hardy’s Tintara and BRL Hardy, where he was Chief Red Winemaker from 1999 to 2003. He has worked overseas at such places as Domaine des Comtes Lafon in Burgundy, Chateau Mouton Rothschild in Bordeaux and G.D. Vajra in Barolo. His focus is simple, to grow and make what's suited to the environment at hand and produce wines that fits with our Aussie lifestyles. He doesn't follow a recipe per se and adapts his methods to what nature throws at him.

Tastes Like?

Nebbiolo with a touch of Adelaide Hills.Loads of red berry fruit flavours - red cherry, redcurrant, cranberry, star anise, tar with a hint of earthiness. Medium bodied, firm but integrated tannins.

“Nebbiolo is what my wife and I drink most often at home, during the week; you can have a glass with dinner on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night and it will just keep getting better. It has developed quite a cult status for me but get this one while you can - unfortunately there will be no 2014 or 2015 releases due to bushfires.” - Steve Pannell

96 points. “From five clones grown in the Gumeracha district, open-fermented, with 21 days on skins, it was pressed to used puncheons for 16 months maturation. Should be decanted 2 hours before serving, and I did just that. It has exceptional varietal expression on the bouquet and palate, sultry red fruits, and tannins that are woven through the fruit on the palate so cleverly you almost forget their presence.” - James Halliday
