What's in the box?SRC Alberello 2014 x100mL ($68 by the bottle)
Grape: Nerello Mascalese
Region: Mount Etna, Italy
Nerello Mascalese (“nair-rello mask-ah-lay-zay”) is a red grape native to Mount Etna in Sicily. Despite its rarity, the wine offers amazing value and a taste profile that’s often likened to fine Pinot Noir. SRC sounds like Italian for 'here we are'. Crasà is a fairly new winery that has certainly arrived in a big way. The Alberello comes from two vineyards, one at 600 m and the other at 650m with 50 year old vines. It is mostly made up of the native red grape Nerello Mascalese with a tiny percentage of Inzolia. A great expression of its volcanic surroundings and a great introduction to the special wines of Mount Etna.
Suavia Mount Carbonare Soave Classico 2014 x100mL ($38 by the bottle)
Grape: 100% Gargenega
Region: Soave, Italy
Soave (“swah-vay”) is an Italian white wine made of Gargenega (“gar-GAN-nehgah”) grapes grown around the medieval village of Soave in Northern Italy. Soave wine is known for its melon-and-orange-zest flavours as well as its ability to improve with age. The Suavia Soave Classico is composed of 100% Garganega grapes harvested from the Tessari family's 12 hectare estate located in the historic heart of the Soave appellation. The resulting wine has a clarity of expression and regional typicity that speaks to the Tessari family's philosophy of careful selection, low yields and incredible attention to detail in the winemaking process.
Disznoko Tokaji Azsu 5 Puttonyos 2006 x100mL ($78 by the bottle)
Grape: 60% Furmint, 30% Hárslevelű, 10% Zeta
Region: Tokaj, Hungary
The wines of the Hungarian region of Tokaj, or as they say it “toe-kay,” are a window into the past. This is where it all started, before the French made Sauternes or the Germans made Rieslings, the Hungarian Tokaji was the original wine of kings and king of wines andDisznoko is one of the first Tokaji producers of Hungary. At 11 years of age, this Tokaji is super complex with a tangy cut of tangerine and orange brightness to balance the wine's oozing sweetness (it has roughly 130 grams residual). The balance between these elements brings a sense of lightness and a squeaky clean finish, allowing the wine to match savoury dishes as well as sweeter desserts.
