Le Serre Nuove is the second wine from Ornellaia. First vintage was released in 1997. Sourced from the estate’s younger vineyards and made with the same care as Ornellaia. The wines were blended after spending 12 months in oak barrel and were aged for another 3 months after that. 2013 is a blend of Merlot 32%, Cabernet Sauvignon 36%, Cabernet Franc 20% and Petit Verdot 12%. 2013 vintage had higher levels of Cabernet Franc as less was used in the Ornellaia.

Tastes Like?

Wonderfully intense black fruit, dark cherry, spiced vanilla notes. Mid weight palate with fine grained tannins. Drinking well now but will mellow out with a few more years.

Critics:

Wonderful depth of fruit to this wine with blackcurrants, spices, mints and flowers. Full body, firm and silk tannins and a fresh finish. Tight and polished red. This needs another three of four years to come together but shows style and beauty. Superb second wine from Ornellaia. - 94 pts James Suckling
