Why You’ll Like It?

Lakes Folly is one of Australia's oldest artisan wineries in the Hunter Valley. Established by specialised surgeon Doctor Max Lake in 1963. He took the world by surprise and showed them that it was possible for a totally unqualified person to successfully establish and produce extremely high quality wines! They produce 2 main flagship wines: Chardonnay and Cabernet blend.

The fruit for the 2013 consists of the following – 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Shiraz, 12% Petit Verdot and 6% Merlot. This outstanding wine was made using traditional open fermentation and aged prior to release in French Oak Barrels.

The 2013 Vintage has lovely black fruits dominate, stylish firmer tannins and great persistence, rich fully bodied and very stylish.

JAMES HALLIDAY 95 POINTS:
“A 60/22/12/6% blend of cabernet, shiraz, petit verdot and merlot, open fermented and matured in French oak. A typically elegant Folly, and has taken full advantage of the vintage; cassis, redcurrant, cedar and wisp of earth typical of the Hunter Valley are all to be had.”
James Halliday Wine Companion, Aug 2016

JEREMY OLIVER 95 POINTS:
“A classical modern Folly red that does take time to flesh out in the glass. Initially dusty, faintly herbal aromas of cassis, blackberries, blueberries and raspberries are backed by nuances of underbrush and lifted by a sweet floral perfume. Medium to full-bodied, with a supple, elegant palate of vibrant black, red and blue berries tightly knit with sweet cedary oak and underpinned by fine, silky tannins, it’s long and superbly controlled. As it breathes it reveals more mouthfilling but finely balanced fruit sweetness, intensity and lusciousness, finishing with typically bright acids and length of flavour.
