Why You'll Love It?
Moreau's Grand Cru Valmur is a powerful, rich style of Chablis. The tiny plot of Grand Cru Valmur sits snuggly between Vaudésir to the north and Les Clos to the south. Domaine Christian Moreau Pere et Fils owns a total of 3 acres of this famed terroir. The plot is densely planted (7000 vines per hectare) with vines averaging 50 years old and the majority of these vines benefit from a sun-catching, south-east exposure. To complement this, there is an additional, cooler north-west facing plot, which brings pertinent freshness and vivacity to the blend. Up to 50% of the blend spends some time in oak, of which 90% are 2-3 year old barrels. Just 10% is new oak.
This exceptionally powerful and rich Grand Cru Chablis is a result of exceptional vineyard location, fruit being produced from old vines and meticulous winemaking.
These are wines of precision, crystal clear typicity, and elegance, that will age classically while enabling tremendous enjoyment throughout their lives.
It offers aromas of white flowers, honeysuckle, acacia, yellow nectarine and a hint of almond. Palate is well balanced and focussed with flavours of apricot, green apple, creamy lemon curd and a long minerally finish. Lovely fresh acidity. Delicious now but can be cellared for another 5-7 years.
“This possesses perhaps the most prominent Chablis character with its notes of mineral reduction, algae, tidal pool and oyster shell scents. There is fine intensity and first-rate detail to the medium weight flavors that evidence a sleek muscularity and plenty of power on the driving and impressively lingering finish. This is an old school Valmur that is robust and masculine in disposition. (91-93)/2021+” Burghound.com Oct. 2014
