Why You'll Love It?

Sagrantino is an ancient grape varietal that comes from the tiny region of Montefalco in Umbria, Italy. Not much of the Italian stuff makes it outside of the country, but here in Australia we're lucky enough to have this varietal produced locally. Like many other Italian varietals that now call Australia home, Sagrantino is well suited to the McLaren Vale conditions. Coriole has been producing wines from Italian varietals since 1985 making it one of the oldest supporters of these grapes.  The grapes were sourced from the same site as Oliver's Taranga, however it has spent 14 days on skins as opposed to 2 days with the Oliver's.

What it tastes like?

Deep ruby red in the glass, full bodied with an authentic Italian-ness about it. Nose and palate offers intense aromas and flavours of dark fruits, black plums, liquorice, dark chocolate and a hint of wild herbs and tobacco leaf. Robust tannins that is typical of this varietal giving it great structure and making it a perfect match for slow braised pork or beef short ribs.
